"It's A Good Thing"

http://joyerickson.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/martha-stewart.jpg
Martha, here we come! I was awarded 3 tickets to the Martha show and I am sparing Dan from Martha this time! Mom and Rachel will be going with me.
I can't wait to hear those words "and everyone in the audience is going home with one"!

I do hope it is not a cord cover , Martha.
hee hee

This is it ...promise

More DOMO

I think he is fabuloso! Everytime I see my NACHO LIBRE DOMO (the cup on the left) on the straw from my slurpee cup (that I put iced coffee in) from 7-Eleven, I smile...and BIG!

Only the Japanese could come up with something so simple the color of poop...well let us say the color and shape of a chocolate brownie!

DOMO...

ARGGHHHH...Martha!

So, it is infuriating when you order a magazine so you can receive your pristine copy prior to the rest of the world who will buy it off of the newsstand. SO, I ordered Martha Stewart Living and Body & Soul all for the low low price of $10.00 in September thinking I would receive the October issue! No such luck...I practically mowed down Daniel everyday of this month so far to get to the mailbox first. I wanted to be the one to open the box and hold that wonderful publication in my arms. Arghhh not today, not yesterday, not so far...

Well being the patient one that I am (hee hee) I called Martha today, well I called Living. You see, I also get FOOD which I received this week (the November issue, note: before everyone else). When I looked at the address label my heart sank because the apartment number said "D", well we live in D9 and used to live in D1 so maybe my magazine got lost? Maybe the new neighbors from Massachusetts (in our old apt) stole it. AWWW so I called. The young lady at Living was very nice and told me not to worry my subscription starts November1st. Well hello....the November issue is on the news stands already! Where is mine? AND hrmpph...why didn't I get October when I received an email asking me how I like my first issue? SO guess what!! The nice operator is sending me back issues from October of each magazine in a special manila envelope!! Wooo Hoo it will be here before Halloween and really that is all I care about!!

What do they say...? The squeaky wheel gets the oil!!

Now, if I could just get Martha to make a new free bag (free gift with subscription) the baby blue and canvas shopper is not so hip anymore!

love-hate

Still of Max Records in Where the Wild Things Are

All I can say is I really wanted to love this movie.

There are several ways to critique Where the Wild Things Are.
Visually it was incredible; beautifully done. The content, well that is for a professional to tell you about.
In my opinion, it was very sad almost depressing and dissapointing movie. It did not help that we went to see it on our fifth day of rain.
I was surprised that in spite of Maurice Sendak working on this film with Spike Jonze the beautiful story of Max a boy with a very intense imagination one that we can all relate to was turned very dark.
This movie was not for children in any way. I honestly feel that the raw emotions of the six year old in the book were lost with distracting bits of divorced parents, a mom who is dating and a sister who clearly has contracted the disease of teenage angst.
Though for me the worst of it was when instead of being sent to his room with no dinner for bellowing that famous "I'll eat you up" Max runs away from home. His mother chases him for as long as she can keep up with his pace and then stops running and lets him go.
In the end, the six year old has an epiphany after spending time with the monsters that each are clearly a layer of his personality or representing authority figures in his life.
When Carole and the other monsters decide not to eat him through this action or lack there of Max is reassured of the loving family that awaits his return home.
It all sounds so warm and fuzzy but running away from home is a very serious and dangerous event. Even more troubling to me was when Max finally made it home his distraught mother was sitting in the kitchen waiting for him, with dinner of course. In this closing scene they say nothing to each other, she watches him scarf down soup and then rewards him with an enormous piece of chocolate cake.
Ummm if I even so much as ran down the block and came right back that would have been the end of my existence 'for real'.
I should have known, since this is all from a man who was a writer and producer for Jackass The Movie.

It was a fine film. Though it is not what I was expecting and not the best interpretation of a fantastic storybook. Maybe he should have left well enough alone. The appeal of Where the Wild Things Are lies within each one of us; we are Max and we have this island set in our imagination where we have let the wild rumpus loose.

Mommie's Birthday

Mom's birthday was October 3rd and we had a great time celebrating.
It is fabulous when a party day is on a Friday that way the good time just keeps going through the weekend!

We spent the day together and in the evening Dan and I took her to a favorite Italian restaurant of ours; Gerranio! We ordered everything from soup to nuts...well we ordered every course and it was so much better than soup and nuts! I highly recommend Gerranio; we have had Christmas Eve dinner there and it is becoming a new tradition for us since right after the birthday dinner we made the Christmas Eve reservation!

On Saturday we drove down to Richmond for a visit with Aunt Marijane and Uncle Babe. When we arrived Aunt Marijane had a very nice lunch prepared. As always it was delicious! Nicole was able to join us as well!

After lunch Nicole took us to see her condo and meet her kitty's. She has four! After we went for a drive to a pumpkin patch. I picked out 3 little pumpkins. They are so sweet and the perfect size for our apartment!
In the evening we headed over to Jason's place and had drinks on the rook of his building watching the sun go down before dinner. Uncle Babe and Aunt Marijane treated us to a delicious meal in Richmond. With our bellies full and a busy day gone by we returned home for a very good nights sleep!

On Sunday we went to Carytown. It was a gorgeous day so we walked the stretch enjoying the boutique style shops including very high end, vintage, thrift and even an organic produce bus!

We stopped for some delicious pumpkin ice cream. Mom found a "Cruella de Ville" coat at one
of my favorite thrift stores in Carytown. It is a 3/4 length swing coat with a high collar but the best part is it is wooly curly lambs fur and the coat is from Greece!
We ended the day at Nacho Mamas for margaritas and snacks.

What a wonderful weekend with family! We headed home around 6pm and realized we live so close!! We should see each other more often we are practically neighbors!

Puddin' for my Puddin'!!

Daniel asked for chocolate pudding and it just so happens that Trader Joe's has a new pudding mix that sets in 5 minutes (for the sweet tooth of the impatient). It is packaged in a cute vintage looking pink box and it is verrrry easy! The adorable espresso cups were a birthday gift from Rachel. Yes, Anthropologie; and no they don't sell them anymore!
Vintage is the theme, so it seems!

ROCK THE RED!!!!

more

Its ON

Last weekend we went to the Capitals Convention to kick off the hockey season 09-10.
This is our year to ROCK THE RED!
As you may recall last year we lost the Stanley Cup in game 7 of 7 in the conference semi-finals, to Penguins. Yes, JUST Peguins.
Daniel had a GREAT day and I must admit it was a lot of fun. I am sure I loved the conference for my own personal list of reasons that are not all all related to Daniel's idea of a perfect day of hockey.
There is something about sexy, sporty men with foreign accents. Hmmmm I could learn to like this game! I show you why below.

We started at the equipment sale where Daniel purchased a real practice jersey; pretty cool! There were many vendors selling collectible memorabilia.
I sat a top the Zamboni and we cruised through a staged locker room. After a light breakfast we sat second row from the main stage to listen to Coach Boudreau talk about the team and the refreshing new season. Very Exciting!!!
We were also able to listen to different seminars on the game including my favorite part "Dropping the Gloves"! This is the part when I acted like a groupie and got Alan May #16 from the late 80's to sign my CAPS baseball hat (though this was only on loan to me, *wink*). Daniel had his jersey signed by the goalie Varlamov otherwise know as "Varly" and Pothier a defenseman. (Daniel is coaching me right now, if you think I know this stuff your Crazzieee. Here is what I know, the other goalie Jose Theodore is HOT!). I do like goalies since that is the position Mr. Babydoll plays.
