Maggie & Sammy

Last week we looked after these beauties!
Their mommy was traveling to the mysterious and always fun, New Orleans. Maggie has the tiger stripes and likes to hide and play with the laser. She is always a lady.

Sammy is the black "fatty" who does not run to play with the laser he rolls. The only time Sammy runs is for breakfast, crunchy treats and dinner!
They are the sweetest just like their owner!

This is Lorenzo

My good friend Rachel has a gorgeous grey fluffy kitty named Winks. Occasionally her precious little girl gets a special treat, shrimp! Well, one night recently I was cooking shrimp; cut some up and put it in his treat bowl. I thought what a treat for a kitty! He walked over took a sniff, did the kitty twitch with his foot and then turned his nose up and walked away. Can you believe it he does not like shrimp! What kind of a cat do I own?!

Oh and over the past five years during Lorenzo's little kitty life with us we have discovered he has a liking for chicken and orange roughy. Not salmon and now no to shrimp...

Lets Go DC!!!!

Nationals ballpark

OK, so no such luck! There were 41,500 and something people in the Nationals stadium tonight and I think maybe 30,000 of those were BOSTON fans...Awww jeez just go home! Well how much you wanna make a bet they are home?! Dan had a great time in the 7th inning when the Sox slammed the Nats. Final score 11 to 3; pathetic.
Naomi and Nick joined us for the game and did an exit stage left right after the slam! I don't blame them but I was with my guy and he is a Boston man. We waited it out. It was a fun night with great friends and good seats just 32 rows from the field and 2 sections over from first base. Naomi and I tried terribly hard to shout out for the DC NATS but no one heard us!
I wonder why...Red Sox SUCK, LET'S GO YANKEES! (I had to fit that in somewhere!)

Thank you Chris for the tickets, we (especially Daniel) really enjoyed them!
By the way, the new stadium is really special and classic in appearance. I just love the clock on the scoreboard!! It is the W with baseball bats for hands and stars for numbers!

Though the sculptures in the entrance are very strange. They are meant to show movement something like the Italian futurism movement in painting and sculpture of the early 20th century.

Truthfully, I did not see this in those sculptures.
Art critic Blake Gopnik called it right; Nationals' Sculptures: No Hits, Just Errors
You can read his review here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/04/08/AR2009040804233.html

The bronze sculpture of Washington Senator Walter Johnson by artist <span class=Omri Amrany (artist)

Here we have pitcher...or octopus? I think we can all see what he was working towards however to me there is nothing other than multiple arms and balls that represent movement. The face and upper body are very stiff and without any real excitement or indication of an action taking place.

Besides the creepy sculptures the stadium is gorgeous and very comfortable.
Now all we need are fans and a better team!

THE HANGOVER

GO see it. Side splitting raunchy man humor.

http://fusedfilm.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/the_hangover01.jpg

We went to see this the first weekend it was in the the theater and walked out still smiling. I wanted to go right back in and see it again. Really, I am not usually a fan of this sort of humor BUT it is a must see. I'm still laughing!
I purchased our tickets at a kiosk in the theater entrance like we usually do but this time there was a prompt to select our seats!? I really just ignored it because I thought no way. When we walked into our theater the usher asked to see our tickets, OH NO! Luckily the computer was kind and put us on the aisle! At first I did not think I liked this but really it is wonderful; no more saving seats, or worrying about getting a seat because we are in the popcorn line! Now when I buy a movie ticket I feel like I am getting more for the $10 smakaroos! It's about time!

Un cafe

SO, this morning the coffee pot began to overflow; it was not on the base correctly.

Then I poured coffee in my cereal.

As the day has progressed it hasn't changed much; in fact the only difference is I am doing these things and I am awake.

I can not explain it but sometimes we are not in the same rhythm as earth and everyone on this lovely planet.

I am really drowning in work. Somehow I used to be able to clear my desk by the end of the day but this is not so anymore. Does this make me a valued employee? I am not sure. Maybe I am doing more....able to do more...or maybe I can not keep up. I like to think I am doing more and growing in the workplace. Nevertheless, I think I might be too young to be dreaming of winning the lottery.

Today I had a vendor appointment. Here's the scenario; my boss, myself, the vendor and her two children! OH my...they were cute and well behaved until about 2:00. Then I heard a lot of "NO" and "that's my brownie". We were conducting our meeting in the courtyard of the American Art Museum; a beautiful, quiet place where many Momma's bring their darlings during the day.

(I mean really, what do their husbands do, that they are just cruising around the city making "playdates" at the art museum?)

There was another little girl there wanting to play with my new princess friend. But the vendors daughter would not play and said "Mommy, she is not cute, I don't want to play, I wish she would get off my stage" There are these wonderful carrera marble platforms to sit on; this was the stage! Earlier the princess was vogueing on it. HA!
So there I was, nodding and smiling, thinking; you never know what your going to get and why would I want to consider having a princess? I mean if the child is anything like me...whoa, there is only room for one princess in our house.

hmmm
So here I sit at my desk exhausted, glazed over and ready for a drink or better yet cornflakes with coffee.
Hold the milk please.

tre bambini

Over the weekend Dan and I went out to the Eastern Shore. It was a nice early summer afternoon; we went for a swim, grilled and waited out an evening summer storm. Here are some pictures of the girls swimming. They have been taking lessons and now have become little fish, oh I mean "little mermaids".

A very proud Nanny!Daniel feeding Laney, yes I made him do it but doesn't he look good!

My heart aches

Why must there be such hatred? I am not the first and I am sure I will not be the last to ask this question.

I could not believe it when I heard the news, the reporters are all calling it domestic terrorism. Really, I wonder what other new creative term can they come up with for something so simple.

HATE

When I was a child I watched Sesame Street; there were all ethnicity's, religions and "creatures" on this program. As I grew older I watched ABC's after school specials. These programs and more taught us "don't judge a book by its cover", so what is going on people!? It is 2009, this is not 1950, someone should have told that to this man of 88 who decided to stir up the muck of days gone by. We need to move forward, be progressive and quit with the aggression and ignorance. Just be considerate and educate yourself, even if it is reading the front page everyday. We are all in this together and while we may get on each others nerves and not agree, there is no good reason to HATE. It is ugly and it makes you ugly.
I am not saying that you should like everyone you meet but there is no good reason for something like this.
I pray for the guard, all of the visitors in the museum and for the family of James Von Brunn.

Asia after Dark

On Thursday evening we went to the Sackler Museum for a special event called Asia after Dark. I really did not know what to expect but the event sounded great, and it was. When we arrived our tickets were waiting at will call and we went right in. The museum was full of excitement; this was a party! We bought a raffle ticket and headed for the bar. There were two theme drinks, one called Asian Persuasian made with peach nectar and rum and a minty rum lemonade (I can not rememebr the clever name). Daniel of course tried the Asian Persuasian, yes he drank alcohol. I know...but when in Rome besides he drank half and turned a nice shade of pink. Our ticket to the event was a great deal; it included 1 beverage from the bar, food tasting (dinner) from Mei N Yu http://www.mienyu.com/ and Johnny's kabob from Germantown. Daniel was quick to point out that Johnny probably was not his real name!

S-Curve (2006)
Anish Kapoor

The food was outstanding and the stations were set up on either side of this Anish Kapoor sculpture called Perspectives. http://www.asia.si.edu/exhibitions/current/kapoor.htm#

I'm not sure standing next to this when on line for food is really such a great idea since as you walk you are morphed into a midget, a giraffe and then a complete combo of wide body from the waist down and gumby from the waist up.
Aside from food and drink there was a 40 minute dance performance by the Smithsonian Folklife dancers covering many countries such as Iran, Russia, Afghanistan and Uzbekestan, origami class and a DJ Delbar from RadioJavan.com for dancing until 11pm.
Most of the galleries were open for veiwing, here is Daniel with our neighbor Lisa.

Daniel's Birthday! Part 3

Daniel received a gift card to Best Buy from Chris and Christie for his birthday. This is every guys dream even though mine will not admit it. It is the only store I know of that he can walk into and get lost. It is the only place where I have to call him in order to find him.

So, one mild Friday night in May, we just finished eating a refreshing Vietnamese meal and he pops the question, "do you want to go to Best Buy?" Sure, I say trying to sound excited.
Once inside he keeps offering the gift card to me. My Daniel is very generous but I can not accept; this is his birthday present. Besides, I see him circle the Wii area like a shark to bloody bait. I suggest a game, but wait..."babydoll, look at this; it is the whole kit". GUITAR HERO.
Thanks to my brother this game became very interesting to Daniel, especially since the song list included ACDC and BON JOVI among some of my other "favorites".
Thank you Chris and Christie for the fantastic dream come true gift card!! Now I am sure to never forget the lyrics to Livin on a Prayer.

I can not believe they have their own website, ugh!

Momma always said

Vintage Photo Mother and Daughter

Every time I left the house Momma always said "be careful"! Ahhh a mother's love, there is nothing quite like it. Maybe you did, but I hardly ever listened until I met age 30 and beyond (can not reveal the actual number any longer). Today my husband became MOM, "how are you getting home?" he says; I reply, "the sun is out I am walking home" this is to make up for the chocolate I ate today, "I will take the bus if it is raining", I get one last look and one last chance as the train crosses the river. No rain, so I will walk. Hooray the chocolate doesn't stand a chance!

As soon as the train pulled into Braddock Road the heavens opened up, it was pouring. I walked... I thought it's only rain. Then it happened lightning, thunder... the Gods were bowling. All the way home I was thinking, lighting please don't strike me down, I'm not that bad! My mother and my husband will kill me for walking if you don't! I could picture it now, petrified char coaled with my fancy fashion week umbrella melted to my hand. What are the chances of me getting struck by lightning? I was listening to my i pod which was on shuffle, now it was torrential, my pumas were soaked, the streets transformed themselves to babbling brooks I'm wearing a white sundress how can I possibly reach in my bag to turn it off? Crack the lighting again and shuffle ACDC Back in Black comes on...(Dan's play list), practically running now and thinking please don't let me get struck listening to ACDC, what a way to go!
Wheew, I made it! And wouldn't you know it as soon as I put the key in the door the rain stopped.
That is my luck, though I did not die and I will listen next time and wait the rain out. By the way, I reminded Daniel just this morning to bring his umbrella, "there is a chance of rain today".
