2009

We are sending our midnight kisses to all

and hope that 2009 will be everything you wish it to be!

deserted...

Well what can I say, Christmas is over the new year is upon us. AND what was I thinking not taking this entire week off like the rest of my office? I have plenty to keep me busy and my boss is here too sooo I could be, should be working but there is something about a quiet space that can either motivate you or lull you to sleep!
The heat is on much too high in here for the 55 degree day we are having so nevertheless I am being lulled to sleep.

Could this be true?

I received an email today with the following history lesson.

Why did I not know this?

Is it true?

From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were
not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone
during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics.
It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning
plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church. Each
element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality
which the children could remember.

-The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.

-Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.

-Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.

-The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.

-The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament.

-The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.

-Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit--Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.

-The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.

-Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit--Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness,
Gentleness, and Self Control.

-The ten lords a-leaping were the ten commandments.

-The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.

-The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles' Creed.

So there is your history for today.

Pushy ....

The holidays just bring out the best in us. And here I go again asking myself why do I like the city?

From the beginning of time there have been beggars. They came in many forms and disguises. Most days I quietly walk past but on occasion I have thrown some change out there. More often I hand out food, a lunch I did not eat or a piece of fruit. After Dan and I were married I had a lot of nutri-system on my hands ..I handed it out like candy.
But today I was challenged and I just could not take it anymore. It was a cold Friday and I just wanted to get a coffee.
This woman, I could see up ahead sort of harassing these two young annoyingly happy women who had been shopping. I tried to pick up the pace so I would not have to be confronted by her but no dice. She was finished with the ladies and moving on to me. It was the typical 'scuse me, lady' I just kept going and then it came. She belted out at least three expletive's in a row kind of like a song. And I snapped, something happened, I don't know I was not in the mood for this none sense. I stopped, turned around and looked at her with squinting eyes. She then has the nerve to say to me .."yeah that's right you heard me, that's what I said". I couldn't help it and I felt horrible after but I yelled" why don't you just get a job?" AND SHE SAYS "YOU ARE MY JOB"! hunpf! Can you believe this? I was floored. I had never heard this before.
She had won the verbal challenge... I suppose.
I like to think that she could not believe I stopped to confront her because she quickly J walked across 7th street. But I really think she didn't want to waste anymore time on me since 'the employer' was not paying...
I have lived in many places and traveled around but I honestly believe that DC is absolutely the worst place when it comes to peddlers and beggars.

The right time...the right place...

So it seems that Dan and I chose the right year to be married and honeymoon to Venice Italy.
Here are some images of the most intense flooding (high water) since the early 80's.
